Wholesale Buffer Cylinder for excavator and backhoe loader Supplier, Manufacturer

A buffer cylinder, also known as an end-cushioned hydraulic cylinder, is a dedicated hydraulic component with cushioning structures at both the cylinder head and bottom.

Used for boom, arm and bucket cylinders, it prevents the piston from hitting the cylinder ends, decelerates movement at stroke ends, reduces shock and noise, and protects seals and mechanical components.

Product Description

Product Description

Working Principle As the piston nears the end of its stroke, the main oil return passage is blocked. Hydraulic oil is then forced to discharge through tiny orifices and clearances, creating back pressure for damping. This gradually slows down and brakes the piston movement.
Core Functions Deceleration at stroke ends, shock absorption, stable operation, noise reduction, and protection for cylinders and seals.
01
Anti-collision

Prevent rigid contact between the piston/rod and cylinder head/end cap. This avoids cylinder barrel deformation, piston rod bending and seal failure.

02
Hydraulic Shock Suppression

Eliminate extreme pressure spikes (up to 3–5 times the system pressure) at stroke ends. It protects hydraulic pumps, valves and pipelines, and relieves water hammer vibration.

03
Smooth Operation

Prevent shaking of buckets and working arms, and improve the stability of combined movements.

04
Extended Service Life & Noise Control

Minimize impact wear and abnormal noise. It prolongs the service life of the cylinder and enhances operator comfort in the cab.

Industrial Applications

1. Excavator

End cushioning slows down the boom and bucket at stroke ends, preventing the bucket from hitting the ground.

2. Backhoe loader

It ensures smooth movement of the digging arm and bucket. Operation stays steady without harsh shaking, for reliable lifting and precise work.

3. Truck crane

The cushioning function for outriggers softens the landing impact and avoids sudden jolts to the vehicle body.

4. Extended service life & noise control

Minimize impact wear and abnormal noise. It prolongs the service life of the cylinder and enhances operator comfort in the cab.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How does the buffer mechanism inside the hydraulic cylinder function?

When the piston approaches the stroke limit, the primary oil return path closes. Hydraulic fluid is redirected through precise damping orifices, establishing controlled backpressure that decelerates the piston smoothly and prevents metal-to-metal collision.

Can these hydraulic cylinders be custom-built for unique dimensions?

Yes. Custom design is a primary service of MPM. We engineer cylinders around your target bore, rod diameter, stroke, installation distance, mounting configuration, and required operating pressure.

What surface finishes and corrosion protections are applied?

Cylinders undergo thorough surface preparation including sandblasting, followed by a multi-tier protective paint system consisting of primer paint, intermediate layer, and durable finish coat to withstand severe environmental exposure.

What machinery types benefit most from stroke-end cushioning?

Heavy equipment enduring high inertia and frequent cycle stops—such as excavators, truck cranes, backhoe loaders, and underground mining equipment—benefit significantly through reduced mechanical wear and suppressed hydraulic pressure spikes.

What testing procedures are performed before product dispatch?

Every cylinder undergoes rigorous pressure and structural validation. Units rated for a working pressure of 20MPa are tested up to 30MPa to guarantee safety margins, zero internal or external bypass, and full structural integrity.
